Fifteen months after we left on our year-long trip around the world, we’re finally back — back in the US, back to full-time jobs and back to US phone numbers. We’ve returned with memories of medinas in Morocco and alleyways in Australia. We can now say thank you in almost 40 languages. We put condensed milk in our coffee and avocado on our toast. We are back, but we are not the same.
Our complete trip recap is a post that I never looked forward to writing. The thought of being back in the US writing about Vietnam instead of being in Vietnam really stressed me out. There are still mornings when I wake up wondering where I am and fight tears for a moment when I realize that it’s Orlando. But the fact that I have this adventure to look back on is something that I will never, ever take for granted. That made me realize that this post is actually the best post ever.
The highest point of our four-day Inca Trail hike to Machu Picchu
So I poured my heart into, and here it us. This is our journey – our highlight reel. It’s the memories and the moments we want to remember when we look back on one of the best years of our lives. And I’m so excited to share that!
There’s a lot I could say about this trip, but I decided to say it with photos. I’ve combed through every single photo we took over the past 15 months and compiled the best of them. Some categories have a photo from every country, but not all of them. If you’ve ever wondered how our trip went, I invite you to flip through these photos and see for yourself.
Thanks for joining us on our adventure! We hope you’ll continue to follow us here on Lattes & Runways and across our social platforms. We will continue to share guides on all the places we’ve been and all the places we still plan to visit. Even though we’re not traveling full-time at the moment, we still have lots of adventures left on our horizon. You can also follow our Disney adventures over on our sister blog, Mouse Hacking.
Our Favorite Memories

Places We’ve Stayed
THE NETHERLANDS | Our Airbnb in Amsterdam had the cutest plant decor
ARGENTINA | Believe it or not, this super European building was actually where we stayed Buenos Aires! We had a great little Airbnb and a killer old-school elevator.
CHINA | Beijing is famous for its hutongs (or alleyways), which wind to and through the traditional courtyard residences called siheyuan. I'm hanging out in the courtyard of our Airbnb in Beijing which was in one of these siheyuan.
COLOMBIA | Our Ecopod at Kasaguadua in Salento, Comolombia was a fusion of remote camping with B&B hospitatlity.
EGYPT | Our home for four nights as we cruised down the Nile
ENGLAND | The skyline view from the rooftop of our Airbnb in the Shoreditch neighborhood of London.
GREECE | We definitely splurged on our Airbnb in Oia on the island of Stanorini. We did make an effort to get as much use out of it as possible, though, and spent most of our days working on the balcony with the most outrageous view.
HONG KONG: This was actually only the second smallest place we stayed in. But we went from this, to ...
HONG KONG: Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong Club Level! The most luxurious place we've ever stayed.
ISREAL | The common area in our Airbnb in Nazareth.
JAPAN | I kid you not, this was the view from our room looking out into Mediterranean Harbor at Tokyo DisneySea.
JORDAN | Our Bedouin campsite in Wadi Rum, outside of Petra
LAOS | When you check into a hotel in Luang Prabang and then they knock on your door to bring you fresh fruit and smoothies. Yes please!

PERU | We spent three nights living in tents as we hiked the Inca Trail.
SOUTH KOREA | Our perfect little home in Seoul
THAILAND | We splurged on a "nice" hotel in Chiang Mai for Christmas the marathon. It turns out the hotel was barely finished and we were the FIRST people to stay there. This wasn't a good thing because nothing was ready! But we still enjoyed our time by the pool.
UNITED ARAB EMIRATES | The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi. This was actually a really weird place and we wouldn't recommend staying here.
VIETNAM | We were upgraded to the Presidential Suite at the Sheraton in Nha Trang and it was legit. It was the biggest hotel room we've ever stayed in. This was just the living room!
Bars
AUSTRALIA | Section 8 in Melbourne was originally a pop-up bar hidden in an art-covered alleyway. It became so popular that it's now a permanent watering hole!
BELGIUM | Delerium Cafe in Brussels. We have always been fans of Delerium Tremens, but it was fun to try their other varieties plus a WIDE variety of other great craft beers.
CAMBODIA | The Angkor What? Bar in Seam reap is a backpacker staple! Cheap beers, great views of Pub Street and good camaraderie is guaranteed!
COLOMBIA | We spent plenty of fun nights at the soviet-themed KGB Bar in Cartagena.
CZECH REPUBLIC | Watching American Football at Jama in Prague. There were lots of Americans there to cheer with!
EGYPT | We mostly skipped alcohol while we were in Muslim-majority Egypt, but had to try one of the few Egyptian beers with dinner at Felfela in Cairo.
ENGLAND | The Astronomer pub in London. We are huge fans of the London pub scene, even if they're all owned by two bar chains.
FRANCE | 1664 at Disney's Hotel Cheyenne at Disneyland Paris Resort

JORDAN | Only two days in Jordan, but that was enough to try their local beer, Philadelphia Beer, on a hot walk through Jerash.
LAOS | Cowboy Park in Vientiane was brand new when we were then in early 2018. It was a great outdoor box park, with a bunch of bars and restaurants built into shipping containers. Great fun!
LEBANON | We landed in Beirut and immediately hit the streets to see what the city had to offer. We found ourselves at Calibri and it was totally our scene. Free pub snacks, cheap local beer, and a quiet but existent weeknight crowd.
THE NETHERLANDS | Warming up with some beer and football (aka soccer) at The Old Bell English pub in Amsterdam

Great photos! What a trip for both of you! I was interested to see your section on coffee. As a Melburnian, I suppose I am biased, but having travelled around much of the world, I believe that Melbourne coffee is the best in the world. There are many places, particularly in Europe, where I would rather live, but nowhere have I encountered coffee as good as in Melbourne.
PS - I am a fan of Delirium Tremens too. The beers in Belgium are the best in the world!

Hi Nicholas! I'm not surprised to hear that! We adored the coffee scene in Melbourne! So many great cafes and all with such great food, too. Your country was extremely welcoming and we loved our time there. There actually wasn't anything we didn't love about Melbourne, but the coffee was definitely one of our favorite aspects. Also the State Victoria Library! That place has a special place in our hearts.
