Travel by Numbers: 6 Months Abroad

Well, guys, here we are! We’re officially looking back on six months of travel in our rearview. I feel like we’re really starting to get a handle of this whole travel lifestyle. We are starting to appreciate some of the less glamorous things, like getting lost on hikes (like on our hike to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai) or riding trains with cockroaches. These struggles just make us appreciate our indulgences even more, like going to all the Disney parks in a year or staying at the Ritz Club Level in Hong Kong.

One of my favorite ways to look back on our travels is my Travel by Numbers graphic. Not only does it make me appreciate my excessive data collection, but it’s really fun to take some time to reflect on just how much we’ve done in a quantitative way.

We’ve hit some pretty big milestones in this update, like going to our 100th coffee shop (we’ve learned a thing or two about coffee around the world)! I have also managed to stand up in three weddings, which is more weddings than I’ve been in my entire life combined, including my own! And don’t let that “Miles Run” stat fool you, we only ran a measly three times the past three months (granted two of those times were full marathons) and all the rest was from our first three months of travel.

So without any further ado, I present our Travel by Numbers for 6 Months Abroad!

Are there any other metrics that I’m missing that you’re interested in? I’d love to hear feedback on data points I can add!

I love this! 26 flights? Holy cow. I appreciate the things lost count. It reminds me that travel isn't all glossy pictures but also full of rich ups and downs along the way. I bet you really appreciated those 3 'found' things after you got them back. ; )

How about boat total?

Thanks, Karen!! I can't even tell you how good those found items felt! Especially when lost items included our passports in China and my laptop! I definitely found the most important missing items! But yes, it's always an adventure, and not always pretty!

I love that you asked about boats because just the other day, we were talking about how we didn't track boats, so we went back to count them all! We have taken 14 boats ranging from a canoe ride at Disneyland Shanghai (which totally counts bc we had to paddle it ourselves!) to a 2-day boat ride between two cities in Laos! Boats are the new black!
